IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It is a type of light therapy used to treat wrinkles, spots, and unwanted hair.
How does the IPL work?
The IPL sends out lights that the pigment cells in your skin absorb and convert into energy and into heat. This heat destroys the hair follicle and thus prevents the hair from growing back. These heat sent to the chromophore of the skin are in particular included in the melanin present in the hairs. This technology does not scatter any ultraviolet rays. It penetrates the second layer of your skin (dermis) without harming the top layer of your skin (epidermis). No damage is done to your skin and your skin remains perfectly healthy.
The difference between IPL hair removal and laser hair removal
As for the end result, IPL is similar to laser treatment, the treatment removes unwanted hair. However, the technology itself works differently. The laser focuses only one wavelength of light and directs it at the treated area while IPL releases light of many wavelengths like the flash in a photo.
In which areas does the IPL work best?
The IPL can be used on the majority of the body except the eyebrows. We also recommend the laser for any facial hair removal for a more precise work. IPL tends not to work as well on uneven areas.
