Chemical peels: who are they for and why?
A chemical peel involves applying an acid solution to the skin to cause controlled peeling. This process removes dead cells and stimulates deep cellular renewal.
At Zena Esthétique, we adapt the intensity of the peel according to your needs: acne treatment, reduction of pigment spots, smoothing of fine lines, or a simple radiance boost.
How does a chemical peel work?
The skin has two layers: the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the thin layer in contact with the outside, measuring approximately 0.02 mm on the face. A peel applies a chemical substance to the skin to cause limited, controlled destruction of the epidermis and sometimes the superficial layers of the dermis. The purpose is to regenerate the altered layers and stimulate the production of elastic fibres and collagen in the underlying layers, thereby densifying the skin.
How does a chemical peel session take place?
No preparation is necessary before the session, but we strongly recommend thorough cleansing and increased hydration for a few days before treatment to better prepare the skin for the peel. During the session, the skin is carefully cleansed. A medical peel suited to your skin type is then applied for a few minutes and carefully rinsed. The treatment lasts between 45 minutes and one hour.

Post-treatment care
We will provide precise recommendations to optimize healing and results. Redness, peeling or sensitivity may appear after the session; these are normal, temporary reactions. It is ESSENTIAL to avoid sun exposure for the two weeks following treatment. Applying a high-protection sunscreen (SPF 50) is essential for at least 15 days.

How many sessions are needed to see results?
This depends on the type of peel and your skin. Results may be visible after the first session, but a multi-session protocol is often recommended for an optimal effect.
Can a peel be done all year round?
It is preferable to avoid medium to deep peels during the summer, as sun exposure can cause spots. Light peels can be performed all year round with good sun protection.
Is a chemical peel painful?
You may feel tingling, warmth or tightness during application, but the treatment remains generally well tolerated.
What care is recommended after a peel?
It is essential to moisturize the skin thoroughly, avoid the sun and apply SPF 50 sunscreen. It is also advisable to avoid makeup and aggressive skin care for a few days.
Are there any contraindications?
Yes. Peels are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with certain active skin conditions, or after recent treatment with retinoids.
